Why should I get involved?
From the perspective of an undergraduate, the benefits of the URE are clear. Students are able to connect with faculty members and other academic researchers and gain practical tools in the research field of their choice.
From the perspective of a faculty member, there are also many benefits. The student/faculty research relationship enables students to reach academic goals while professors receive valuable research assistance. Students learn what areas challenge and interest them, how to do research, and they benefit from direct mentoring from the research advisor. Although mentoring students does take time, in many cases faculty members share some day-to-day supervision of undergraduates with graduate students and post-docs.
