    Research Interest:
    My overall program of research is focused on the prevention and management of obesity and/or diabetes. The intervention strategies examined in my research are generally community- and/or technology-based approaches.

    We currently have two ongoing projects with opportunities for students. One is focused on the use of a computer-based exergame designed to teach about eating healthy and getting regular physical activity.

    The second project examines an internet-based virtual world (e.g., uses avatars) intervention to educate adults at risk of diabetes about ways to help reduce their risk through eating healthy and regular physical activity.

    Minimum time commitment in hours per week: 10

    Qualifications of a Student:
    Highly motivated student with a strong interest in learning about health promotion intervention research, especially using community and technology based approaches.

    Minimum GPA of 3.75. Prior research experience or research coursework. Major in psychology, public health, medicine, computer programming or other area related to projects. Junior or senior level. Honors College student. Students who are working toward applying to graduate school in public health or biomedical research or medical school are also strongly preferred.
