    Participating in the Chancellor’s Undergraduate Research Awards program: Yes

    Research Interest:
    We are beginning the following projects in the summer/fall of 2014:

    • a survey of parents of Head Start children investigating the parents' perceptions of what their children need to know and be able to do in order to be ready for kindergarten.

    • developing a series of three UIC Center for Literacy Policy Papers on (1) digital literacy, (2) early literacy, and (3) Common Core State Standards that will be presented at a Spring conference attended by state-level and foundation-based policy makers.

    If you have an interest in participating as a Research Assistant or Conference Organizer on either of these projects, please contact Professor William Teale at the UIC Center for Literacy.

    Minimum time commitment in hours per week: 7

    Qualifications of a Student:
    Interest in working as a team member on research focused on equity and literacy in today's society. Good organizational skills for data management. Strong research literature/Internet search skills.

    Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
    Become a member of UIC Center for Literacy (CfL) teams working on each of the projects described above. Maintain regular hours in the CfL office each week. Assist with data analyses, literature searches, and/or editing as necessary.
