College: Architecture and the Arts Department: Art History
    Title: Professor
    Office: Henry 302A
Participating in the Chancellor’s Undergraduate Research Awards program: Yes

    Research Interest:
My main areas of research are contemporary art, critical theory, and the history of photography. The larger theme I explore in all of my work is the way in which artworks call on their audiences to experience themselves socially rather than individually. I am currently working on several long-term projects at various stages of completion that would benefit from research assistance: a book on Andy Warhol, a book on Paul Strand, and a book that looks at one group of artistic responses to the social and political promise and turmoil that climaxed in 1968.

Minimum time commitment in hours per week: to be negotiated with student researcher

    Qualifications of a Student:
I am seeking a responsible and enthusiastic student with some background in contemporary art, critical theory, and/or the history of photography. Ideal for major in the arts or humanities.

Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
Library and internet research, occasional correspondence with copyright holders, museums and others, occasional scanning and minimal image processing, bibliographical research, fact checking.
