    Research Interest:
    His current linguistic interests include the acquisition of Spanish phonology by Spanish speaking children, and analysis of the phonology and morphology of languages in contact. He has collected extensive data on the speech of seventeen Dominican children, which are ready for analysis and interpretation. Additionally, he is preparing a chapter on the phonology of Spanish trills which will appear in a handbook on Spanish phonology, edited in Spain. He is also revising and updating his textbook Fonología Generativa Contemporánea de la Lengua Española.

    Qualifications of a Student:
    Junior or senior status. One or two courses in (general) linguistics of any language. Experienced in using library resources and knowledgeable with either Word or WordPerfect, and Excel. A reading knowledge of and/or speaking ability with Spanish are desirable.

    Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
    Be punctual with appointments. Complete and deliver assignments when due. Open to be trained on using Praat, a speech analyzer used in phonetics.
