    Research Interest:
    Lipids, lipoproteins, heart disease; diabetes; Effect of various types of fatty acids (omega 3, omega 6, conjugated, trans fatty acids)on membrane structure and function; Mechanism of action of conjugated linoleic acids.
    Dietary omega 3 fatty acids and brain function.

    The major focus of research at present is prevention and treatment of neurological diseases (Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, depression, epilepsy etc) through dietary omega 3 fatty acids, based on our recent discovery of novel pathway to enrich brain EPA and DHA.

    Minimum time commitment in hours per week: 10

    Qualifications of a Student:
    Junior or Senior Course work in organic chemistry, biology, or biochemistry.

    Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
    Interest in lipids, membranes, diabetes, atherosclerosis.
    Interest in learning new techniques and applying them to specific projects. Flexible timings.
