Research Interest:
The UIC Center for Literacy (CFL) has the following 2017-2018 projects with research opportunities: (1) The Style and Skill of Candace Fleming, Children's Book Author: This project involves content analyses of Fleming's books and co-authoring a monograph that represents a critical analysis of her work. (2) Evaluation of the Implementation and Impact of Chicago's Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership Project: In 2017, the City of Chicago launched a multi-year project designed to increase Early Head Start opportunities for families. CFL is conducting the evaluation of this project, and the undergraduate research experience would involve data input and analysis of the implementation and impact of the project. (3) Development of Outcome Measures of the Impact of CFL Family Engagement Program: Involvement in this project will include working on development and field testing of measures of the impact of CFL family engagement programs on parent knowledge and skill. If you have an interest in participating as a Research Assistant on any of these projects, please contact Professor William Teale.

Qualifications of a Student:
Interest in working as a team member on research focused on equity and literacy in today's society. Good organizational skills. Interest in developing skills for data management and analyses.

Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
Become a member of UIC Center for Literacy teams working on each of the projects described above. Maintain regular hours in the CFL office each week. Assist with data analyses, literature searches, interviewing and/or editing as necessary.
