Research Interest:
The intersection of music (and the arts more generally) with other fields, particularly sustainability and environmentalism, the natural sciences, the social sciences, and philosophy. The use and practice of music by communities.

- Excellent and expeditious note-taking skills - Critical thinker and questioner, “people skills,” conversationalist, good listener - Working knowledge of GoogleDocs - Background in music/the arts preferred, not compulsory - Sophomore to senior-level status

Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
The UIC Summer Institute on Sustainability and Energy Initiative (SISE) seeks 1-2 undergrad interns for interdisciplinary research related to the arts, specifically music, and sustainability/environmentalism. The intern(s) will research the impact of the arts in social movements related to environmental justice, sustainability, and environmentalism. They will collect data on these groups, conduct field research through interviews with relevant organizations, and work collaboratively to find commonalities and consider questions of efficacy of musical use. They will also meet once a week as a group to discuss the available, but limited, research in this area. All facets of this internship can be conducted remotely.
