Research Interest:
I direct the Center for Research on Health and Aging. Our Center is a centralized resource for researchers from disciplines including public health, psychology, exercise science, nutrition, disability, physical therapy, medicine, and more to study aging-related issues. We design and test evidence-based health promotion/behavior change interventions for older adults- one of the fastest growing populations in the U.S. Additionally, we have created and run the nationally-acclaimed Fit & Strong! program – an evidence-based exercise program for older adults with arthritis. The program is endorsed by the CDC and the National Council on Aging.

Minimum time commitment in hours per week: 8

Qualifications of a Student:
We are looking for motivated students with an interest in aging. Our Center would be a great fit for public health, psychology, exercise science, nutrition, and pre-medicine students who have a clinical or research interest in aging-related issues.

Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
We expect students to be mature and committed to working with us in the field to make a difference in the lives of older adults. We can provide an excellent training for future careers in health related disciplines and other occupations. Students are expected to commit to a regular schedule and stick to it - in return we will provide training, supervision and career mentoring. We would like a student to contribute to the administrative needs of our Center, which may include preparing paper materials and processing payments, and to contribute to active research projects, which may include scheduling participants, screening participants, conducting interviews, administering questionnaires, entering and organizing data, and other related duties. Students will need to complete human subjects and HIPAA training before working with research participants.
