Research Interest:
English Education; Teaching of writing; Young adult literature; Community-based literacy; Well into a book project, an edited collection of Stories of Growing Up in Chicago from a variety of cultural perspectives. This book is the one I am most interested in involving undergraduates, researching and archiving stories about growing up in the Chicago area from a variety of cultural and other identity perspectives to be compiled in a collection. The target audience for this book would be Chicago area middle and high school students, and English classrooms, and the idea is to encourage area English teachers to consider stories of local interest for their curricula. Students involved would have an opportunity to get involved in every aspect of book production..

Minimum time commitment in hours per week: 3

Qualifications of a Student:
Library and internet research capabilities. Archival work, annotation, some analysis; An English major and perhaps particularly someone interested in teaching would be ideal.

Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
Students will be contacting local literary and cultural organizations, going to libraries, doing internet and library archival research, archiving stories, filing, working with me and an editor from a press on every facet of book production. Meeting weekly with me. At the later stages, there will be work ion marketing the book, all aspects of late publication.
