Research Interest:
Theater, Arts Producing My interest is to apply best practices in producing theater. To research and implement the August Wilson Monologue Competition. A competition that inspires creativity and literacy in High School Sophomore, Juniors and Seniors. I believe that the arts can promote literary and can boast better test scores and ultimately college participation. Partners include Goodman, Court, American Theater company, Victory Gardens and The League of Chicago Theater.

Minimum time commitment in hours per week: 6 -12

Qualifications of a Student:
Requirements: I am looking for smart, flexible, committed students who want to learn about research and producing in the field of Theater. You need to be willing to commit to 6 to 9 hours per week of work in return for 2 or 3 credits of Theater credit. To apply, you must have a strong GPA and would prefer a theater major/minor that has completed at least Intro. of Acting (161) and Acting II (Adaptions) (263) . You must also be very reliable, very committed, knows Microsoft Word and has experience with Excel. Must have knowledge of the work of August Wilson.

Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
You will assist me in research, communication and producing the August Wilson Monologue Competition. Your duties will include creation and/or editing of press and materials for Participants. You will also partner with other assistants to organize and schedule appointments of contestants. You will keep notes at meetings, with such partners as UIC staff, Goodman Theater, League of Chicago Theater, Court Theater, Victory Gardens. You will also have the opportunity to research and implement best marketing practices to build participation in the competition. You will collect and tabulate all collected data from students. You will learn research and producing best practices for theater, as well as, multi level communication, effective scheduling and project implementation.
