Research Interest:
My research interest are primarily in the fields of sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, and applied linguistics. Topics include variation and change (Spanish and English), gender, age, and social class, medical discourse, needs analysis for second language instruction, and narrative. The student should have taken a class or classes in linguistics and have some knowledge of issues in discourse and narrative. Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
We will work together to identify narratives and non-narrative stretches of speech from interviews with heart patients. Specifically, we will look to identify illness narratives focusing on experiences of heart failure and treatment.
