- Use of geospatial technologies and systems to support urban planning decisions - Information and telecommunication technology (ITC) and cities - Urban crowd-sourcing and big data - Urban planning and development practice in transitional countries (southeast Europe)

Qualifications of a Student:
Min 3.0 gpa Social sciences, engineering, business or computing major 2nd or 3rd year in college Familiarity with / interest in technology

Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
Chicago is a world city - imagined and marketed as such. What does it mean? How is the city represented in the public and social media? How does the virtual experience compare with the real Chicago, that a renowned urban theorist Soja would term 'the city lived'? Is there a single or multiple realities? Expectations: literature review, data collection and report writing.
