Research Interest:
Causes and consequences of social inequality and the role of policy in alleviating or aggravating these disparities. I use quantitative research methods to assess how federal, state, and local policies influence criminal justice practice (i.e., policing, detention/incarceration) and the welfare of immigrant and minority communities. Minimum time commitment in hours per week: 5 Qualifications of a Student:
Juniors or seniors that have taken at least one course in statistics and have an interest in scientifically-minded social research. Students interested in studying racial/ethnic inequality and quantitative methods will be considered. Those majoring in Criminology, Law, and Justice; Economics; Computer Science; and Public Policy will be given preference. Experience with R, STATA, Python, and/or GIS is a plus. Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
Expectations would be decided upon individually, but generally speaking, I would anticipate student RAs to help assemble, code, and clean secondary data sets; engage with and summarize scholarly literature related to research projects; and assist in preparing materials for presentation and publication (e.g., the creation of tables, graphs, powerpoints).
