Research Interest:
The Lee Lab investigates how endothelial impairment and PI3K/Akt dysregulation triggers the onsest of cardiovascular disease. We utilize a combination of high-content screening together with modern in vitro and in vivo techniques to allow for a multi-tier, integrative approach toward translational research. We are currently focused on how endothelial Akt1 activity influences atherosclerotic disease progression with additional interest in novel downstream effectors of Akt. Our long-term goals are to: I) uncover the role of endothelial Akt activity in vessel physiology, and to II) investigate novel Akt-substrate relationships to unravel the complexity of Akt signaling and its influence on cardiovascular disease progression. College freshman or sophomores ideal to accommodate a 4-semester commitment Honors college participation preferred but not required Preferred Majors: Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering Minimum GPA: 3.0 Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
Time Commitment: ~12-15 hours per week for 4 academic semesters, 3-5hrs per day Training Plan: Hands-on mentorship and guidance provided. Basic lab techniques will be taught to aid in routine maintenance of the lab. Project selection will depend on time commitment and research interests. Must be able to multitask and work independently in a dynamic research environment while maintaining professionalism for collaborative work.
