My research interests include large-scale social computing, text/web mining, scalable machine learning (probabilistic graphical models, optimization), NLP (semantic web, information extraction), and social network analysis (community detection, information diffusion) under big data.

Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
Students will be working with me on a specific project which I am currently working on with some collaborators outside UIC. Students will be assisting me in collecting data, designing and implementing algorithms to analyze data, and also reporting results. Throughout the project, I expect students can understand some algorithms about data mining, social network analysis. In addition, I expect students can improve their programming skills, their team working skills, and their writing skills.
