Research Interest:
We have an ongoing clinical trial that involves an exercise intervention in manual wheelchair users. The primary interest is in how different types of exercise affect upper extremity biomechanics, pain, function, and general physical fitness. This project is in collaboration with the adaptive fitness center located at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Major in kinesiology or bioengineering preferred, with sophomore or junior standing. Interest in potentially working with subjects is desirable but not required. Experience with exercise and fitness equipment also desirable but not required. Individuals with a future career interest in physical therapy, medicine, disabilities studies, occupational therapy, biomechanics, exercise and fitness, etc. would find this an enriching project. Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
I am looking for a student who can assist with any of the following: 1. initial contact with potential subjects (subject recruitment) 2. assistance with pre/post testing including measurements of strength, flexibility, peak oxygen uptake, and motion capture 3. potentially working with subjects to ensure and facilitate compliance with the exercise protocol 4.
