Research Interest:
The Mood and Anxiety Disorders Research Program uses magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI, DTI, sMRI) and electroencephalography (EEG) of event-related potentials (ERP) as predominant tools to assess brain circuit function as they relate to emotion, affect regulation and motivation. We study patients across the lifespan, from childhood to adulthood and appreciates a longitudinal view of illness, from emergence of illness and to recovery. The Program is multi-disclipinary and patient-oriented, and aims to discover the behavioral and brain mechanisms that implement the regulation of affect and motivational salience in humans. The Program seeks to answer two main questions: 1) What are the nodes of brain dysfunction in mood and anxiety disorders; and 2) How do treatments work and for whom? Ultimately, the Program aims to make current treatments better and to identify new treatments.
