Research Interest:
Dr. Balcazar is currently the director of the Center on Capacity Building for Minorities with Disabilities Research. Dr. Balcazar's primary research interest is in developing effective strategies for enhancing consumer empowerment and personal effectiveness among individuals with disabilities. I am currently conducting projects in the following areas: 1. Promoting entrepreneurship skills among youth and young adults with disabilities and help them developed their business plans and start up their small businesses. For more information see www.artfullygifted.org 2. Improving and promoting the successful transition of youth with disabilities graduating from high school, and 3. Developing and testing strategies to promote successful employment and other rehabilitation outcomes for individuals with disabilities in the state.

Minimum time commitment in hours per week: 5 to 10

Qualifications of a Student:
All projects are open to students at any level -- freshman to senior.

Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
Literature reviews, data collection, data entry and analysis. Willingness to go to community sites and support potential entrepreneurs. Assist with searches for grant opportunities for external collaborators.
