Research Interest:
Broadly, our lab conducts research in the area of political psychology. Our most recent work has focused specifically on people's attitudes and beliefs that they hold with strong moral conviction. For example, two studies currently being conducted in our lab are examining how holding a belief with strong moral conviction impacts social interaction and how it affects people's willingness to engage in political activism.

Minimum time commitment in hours per week: 6 to 9

Qualifications of a Student:
Candidates need to be willing to commit to between 6 and 9 hours per week of work in return for either 2 or 3 credits of PSCH 396 credit. To apply, you must have a GPA of 3.2 or better, and you must have completed PSCH 100 (Intro. to Psych.) and PSCH 242 (Methods). You must also be very reliable, very committed to scholarship, and very congenial in a teamwork situation.

Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
We currently have one to two Research Assistant positions open in our laboratory, for Honor’s College URA and PSCH 396 credit. For one of the positions, priority will be given to candidates with a computer science background with experience with computer programming. This position will involve helping with the early stages of programming an online studies examining group identity across cultures and motivation and resource allocation. A possible second position will involve data entry and management for several studies looking at the effects of moral beliefs on human interaction and on how people think about political issues. In future semesters, particularly motivated and promising RAs will likely have the opportunity to work on other projects gaining experience in a variety of other areas of social research.
