Research Interest:
Environmental anthropology, urban anthropology, race, gender, and class. Alaka Wali is a curator in the Anthropology Department (Collections and Research) and Applied Cultural Research Director in Environment, Culture and Conservation(ECCo) at the Field Museum. She was the founding director of the Center for Cultural Understanding and Change until it merged with the Environment and Conservation Programs to form ECCo.

Qualifications of a Student:
Preferred qualifications: Working towards a degree in anthropology, sociology or psychology with an interest in the human dimensions of environmental management; Detail-oriented, data-savvy; Experience with Excel, SPSS, and/or NVivo desired, but not required.

Brief Summary of what is expected from the student:
The RESTORE project (Rethinking Ecological and Social Theories of Restoration Ecology) aims to understand the links between decision making and planning processes and biodiversity outcomes in oak woodland restoration sites around the Chicago Region. The LASURI student would help with a variety of qualitative data collection (survey field work), data entry, and data analysis (qualitative and quantitative) tasks.
