Research Interest:
Dr. Filindra's research focuses on immigration policy in the United States and elsewhere. Her main normative concern is to develop new, research-based ways to combat racism and prejudice. She is especially interested in understanding the political, social and economic roots of anti-immigrant prejudice and why people support restrictive laws such as the Arizona or the Alabama immigration laws. Furthermore, her work looks at the rise of the extreme right in Europe and especially in Greece. Another key interest is border enforcement and deterrence theory. Her work problematizes the "rational actor" assumption of border and domestic immigration enforcement policies.
